One of the best seasons to travel abroad is during Christmas. European cities are popular destinations and Amsterdam is one of the best spots. It has a long history of Christmas traditions. Santa Claus came from the Dutch word Sinterklaas. What could be more Christmas than that?

The pomp, color, and people radiate a whole new vibe. It’s a mix of jingle bells, fairy lights, majestic colorful trees, and crackling hearths that warm your heart. Basically, you get to experience a holly, jolly, gaze-ling Christmas.

Whether you’re with family, friends, or as a couple, these spots will ensure you have loads of fun. They are all about fun, family, bright lights, snowy scenery, and simple festive cheer.

Go to the Amsterdam Christmas tree

Make this visit in the evening or at night. So after your day trip with Banksy Amsterdam, make the trip to Dam Square. Every December, they have a 65-foot tree with over 2 miles of LED lights. It’s such a picturesque moment with the Nieuwe Kerk church and Royal Palace as the backdrop.

If you can, attend the tree lighting ceremony that hosts music performances, carolers, and lots of hot food and drinks. The tree is there from the 6th of December to early January.

Shop at Christmas Markets

If you want to get the holiday staple of the Netherlands, go to the Christmas market. They pop up around the city once when December arrives. The most popular being the Sunday Market at Westergas. It becomes the Funky Xmas Market from 15th December. It has an artsy and eccentric vibe. A week later, the Amsterdam Christmas Market starts, and people can ice skate, enjoy live music, shop, and eat food from trucks.

Attend a Holiday Concert

You have to go to the Concertgebouw. It is one of the most architecturally impressive buildings in Europe. People have been going there since 1888 for renowned musical show performances. They’ll have many holiday-themed performances in December and it’s one of the best ways to wind down after a visit to the Moco Museum. The Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra always hosts a festive concert featuring music from all over the globe.

Attend a Circus

You can’t miss attending one when the circus is in town. The Wereldkerstcircus (World Christmas Circus) has one of the most impressive shows and stunts globally. The performances are mind-blowing and you’ll definitely be mesmerized by the acrobatics and stallion dressage. It is not your everyday circus.
